One address for questions, sources and corrections.

Email [email protected].

That address handles corrections, source suggestions from historians and clan associations, and questions about a page. For an error in a page, read the corrections page first so the report has what we need.

What we can help with

  • Reporting a mistake or a missing source.
  • Offering a document, publication or archive reference for a tartan, clan or surname.
  • Questions about how a page was researched.

What we cannot do

We cannot research a personal family history, confirm a family's right to a clan, or register a tartan. For ancestry, the Scottish Register of Tartans points to ScotlandsPeople. For clan membership, ask the clan society. For registering a design, use the Scottish Register of Tartans.

Replies may take some days. There is no phone line, no postal address and no live chat.

Before you write

The answer may already be on the site. The search page covers tartans, clans, surnames and guides, and the methodology explains how evidence is graded from A to E. If your question is whether you may wear a tartan, the guide on who can wear which tartan sets out the general position.

If you are reporting an error, the corrections page lists what to include. A page address and a source make it possible to check the report quickly.
